Jayfur is very stubborn and once he sets his mind to something, then good luck. No one can stop him (save for the clan leader or just maybe the deputy). Him, wrong?! Please! In his own mind, Jayfur is never wrong, no matter the proof that is shoved under his own nose. It often takes him all but seeing his errors with his own eyes to believe he's wrong or has made a mistake. Perhaps it has to do with his quiet confidence, after all, being confident is half the battle when being right. He refuses to see things another way if it's shoved in his face, and when he thinks he knows the right path, he's not going to listen, not to you, not to his mate, and possibly not even StarClan. This stubborn nature tends to show along with his temper, the more you press the issue. Him thinking he knows better may stem from actually thinking so, but if you keep pushing it and pissing him off, he'll fight and oppose you just to make your day harder. He can be spiteful, nasty, and downright cruel should he feel the situation calls for it, and he'll be such a way in the name of 'stubbornness' or 'necessity'.
At at times, Jayfur thinks he is StarClan's gift to ThunderClan. But not always is he obsessed with his looks, but a cat has to look good to play the game well. His physical appearance is very much linked with his mental state. However, he prefers to look sleek and well groomed. If he walked around looking like he just crawled out of the jaws of a badger, would anyone listen to him? No. No they would not. The first step to success is to make sure you look the part.
Wait? No! Keep up or be left behind. He doesn't like to be slowed down for any reason. Not for the old or sick, or even the dead. He's hurtled through his life with little regard to those who he has left in his wake. With the aid of friends and family though, he's perhaps gotten a little more reasonable. He dislikes waiting his turn, waiting for reports, and often demands answers before they are ready or half-formed. Waiting gives others time to think, and he likes to keep everyone else on their toes, it keeps them from thinking they know better than him. It also frustrates him to wait for information. You should know by now what he wants to know, you should have run faster, you should have spoken swifter!
Honesty, is his strongest policy. Liars and cheats are the ones that make his teeth itch the most, and the ones he'd be happy to remove from their lives. He also has a tendency to say what he thinks, even if it isn't really acceptable in private, let alone in public. He tends not to think before he speaks, therefore there can be agonizingly hurt feelings thrown into daily life. He tries to think when he speaks. Unfortunately, his impatience hamstrings him, and he finds himself spitting out things that he can only cringe at. He also has a tendency not to lie even to the youngest of cats. Small lies, or big, gentle or harsh, he doesn't see why one would lie to the young it will only teach the young to lie to the younger. He was taught at a young age, that honesty is the best and generally the right policy when dealing with other cats. He sadly missed the memos about polite lies. Pity.
He is known for his witty and rather quick tongue. He is quick to crack a joke to relieve tension. Espescially after something rude he said. Well, if he notices it.
history
Adderfang and Dawnfur had been kithood friends. Adderfang was the fire to Dawnfur's ice, and despite their opposite personalities (and how vehemently they denied the amused rumors as youths) few cats were surprised when the couple ended up together. It was an odd pair yes, but a stable one. A very happy relationship that might not have made sense to everyone but worked perfectly for them. It had only been a matter of time before they had their first litter.
Both toms, Thornkit and Jaykit didn't come into the world without a fight. It was a difficult kitting with plenty of complications. Dawnfur nearly lost her life, but in the end pulled through. The names of the kits were half for their fur and half for the difficulty that they'd caused. This wouldn't be the end of the family's troubles, and it put things off to a rocky start. Thornkit had been first. Large and golden, he would be the spitting image of his father if it weren't for his blue eyes. Jaykit was second, smaller but not necessarily easier. He was the one who mirrored his mother.
Adderfang and Dawnfur had thought it to be a small litter at birth, but as they grew Thornkit and Jaykit caused more than their share of trouble. They were always getting into something. Be it crawling under the paws of senior warriors, trying to sneak out behind patrols (always to be dragged back into camp before setting a paw outside), or getting into fights with one another. The family had a good enough relationship. Dawnfur was easily frustrated and didn't take well to queen life, leaving Adderfang with almost more parental duties than she. But they understood one another, even if the kits didn't. Jaykit got along better with his mother, leading to similar personality traits, while Thornkit spent more time with his father. The kits themselves got along well enough in their youth, when they were still treated roughly the same. But when they hit apprenticeship and began to develop apart things began to change.
Jaykit had to have been the most excited cat in the forest the day that he was apprenticed. He'd been dreaming of the day for moons and it was finally there! Despite his excitement, he sat sit for his father to groom him. Besides, he had to look good right? Who would believe that he was ready for apprenticeship? Jaykit became Jaypaw, and was apprenticed to a tom by the name of Sedgeface. A thunderclan loyalist through and through, Sedgeface would play a great part in forming Jayfur's personality. Meanwhile Thornpaw was apprenticed to a she-cat by the name of Sablecloud.
Their apprenticeships put the brothers on very different paths. With Sedgeface's guidance, Jaypaw became even more loyal to his clan than he'd previously been. He learned ambition and pride, but also strength and endurance. Sedgeface was a good warrior but a very opinionated tom to say the least. Sablecloud on the other hand was a peaceable and law-abiding she-cat, who taught Thornpaw of restraint and heart. The brothers began to grow apart as their personalities shaped in different ways, and as the developed different positive and negative traits cats began to treat them differently. Thornpaw soon became the favored sibling among many cats in the clan, much to Jaypaw's chagrin. Most cats would pick a tall, charismatic tom over a small and easy to anger one any day. And it infuriated Jaypaw to no end. Sedgeface taught him to channel that anger into strength however. If you have no faults, no cat will be able to say a negative thing about you! Sedgeface was an idealistic tom, and one who throughout his first apprenticeship didn't quite understand how literal a young cat would take his words. He taught to use any fury that a cat might have to their advantage. And so Jaypaw did. He might not have been the best with words or the easiest to get along with, but he was determined to become the best warrior there could be.
Some things worked, some didn't. Thornpaw remained the favorite and Jaypaw fell into the shadows. This caused plenty of argument between the two, which accumulated in a training session ending with bloodshed. Jaypaw had lost the tip of his ear, Thornpaw's nose would be forever scarred. Adderfang and Dawnfur were at a loss, having not known how much their differences had affected the two. Sedgeface and Sablecloud had a long talk about their teaching methods, and the two brothers were both put on camp duties and were disallowed to train together for some time.
Jaypaw's apprenticeship wasn't all jealousy and spite however. No, it was a wonderful time in his life save for that. He loved to learn the history of his clan and how to best defend it. Tasks that other apprentices might find detestable such as cleaning the elders dens he loved! A chance to talk with the oldest and most respected warriors in the clan and hear their stories. He had a good relationship with the elders of the clan, and a few of them helped to teach the moral lessons that the first-time mentor Sedgeface had neglected. It was from the elders, not his mentor that Jaypaw learned to make the most of what he was and to stop comparing himself to others so often (How well that lesson stuck, or if it stuck in exactly the right way however.. is up to debate.). Jaypaw still remembers those times fondly, and treats elders with the utmost respect.
Finally, the day he'd been waiting all his life for finally arrived. Jaypaw's warrior ceremony! He could barely sleep the night after his warrior assessment he was so excited. He hadn't done the best in hunting, but his fighting had excelled. He had high hopes and those hopes were realized the morning after. After moons of training and work, Jaypaw became Jayfur. That had to have been the happiest day of his life. He honestly couldn't believe it! His mentor and parents were both proud, and he could finally do everything he'd waited his entire life for. Jayfur would become the best warrior that the clan had ever seen, and he would take that center stage for himself if he had to! Thornpaw became Thorn-nose, but Jayfur (despite all his supposed gained independence and self value) payed him little mind and tried to ignore how slightly louder the calls for his brother's name seemed to be.
Now a warrior, Jayfur quickly settled in to the life he'd always wanted. He lives his days with pride, volunteering for every patrol he can get his paws on and dreaming of the day when he can get an apprentice of his own. Or maybe even become deputy! Ambition is deep seated in his heart. But until those days come, he's very happy to just be a loyal warrior of Thunderclan.
